Split Pea Soup
This particular batch was made with yellow split peas, but one would usually use green, so this color is not typical.
Considering the fact that it only takes about 15 minutes of prep time, and can feed 10 people, this is a great recipe. It doesn't hurt that it's quite tasty, and very hearty. Best with buttered toast.
Ingredients
- 2 pounds split peas
- 1 ham bone, with plenty of meat left on it.
- 5 carrots, chopped fine.
- 4 stalks celery, preferably minced, grated, or run through a food processor.
- 3 tablespoons fresh garlic, pressed, or pre-minced.
- 1 very large onion, or two smaller ones.
- Water (enough to fill pot).
Spices
- 2 tsp Garlic Powder
- 2 tsp Onion Powder
- 1 tsp Thyme
- 1 tsp Chicken Bullion
- 2 Bay leaves
- Salt (to taste).
- Pepper (to taste).
Directions
- Place all ingredients and spices into crock-pot.
- Cook on high for 12 hours, stirring occasionally.
